Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 First Teaser Trailer
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 Opening May 5, 2017
If the last eight years haven’t been a hint of what’s to come, prepare yourself for non-stop superhero film marketing. 2017 will see a minimum of ten different geek driven movies released in theaters. Marvel is leading the charge with producing three movies a year, instead of the previous two per year. The first of three 2017 Marvel produced films is the return of our favorite space-bound ragtag team in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.
Marvel Releases First Official Poster and Teaser Trailer
With over seven months until the film’s release, Marvel has begun their marketing for the sequel. The Disney-owned studio has released the first official poster and teaser trailer. In a black and white palette, the poster depicts the original team plus Yondu and Nebula. It’s a great depiction of the new team as they lean nonchalantly against a wall. However, the teaser trailer brings you right back into the world of the Guardians with the visuals, characters and humor of the original. It doesn’t give much away, but pay attention and you’ll catch a glimpse of what’s to come. If you watch one of Gamora’s scene, you’ll see something unusual.
What We Know So Far
According to reports and interviews of the cast, director and Marvel, we know plenty and nothing at all. We know the original team will return along with a few extra teammates. Yondu and Nebula will also return, but join the team as part of the Guardians. Along with the additions of the two returning characters, the team is adding a third in Pom Klementieff’s Mantis. Good news usually comes in threes. The addition of Sharon Stone, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell fits the theory perfectly.
We know Kurt Russell is playing the father of Star Lord, Ego the Living Planet. As someone who was lucky enough to be in Hall H at SDCC, I can attest Kurt Russell’s physical form is an avatar for Ego the Living Planet. As the avatar, he journeyed to Earth and fathered Peter Quill. In addition, Ego has created a daughter, Mantis. As such, she is the half-sister of Star Lord. Unfortunately, we won’t see Thanos, but the last addition might be the most important one of them all. Elizabeth Debicki will portray Ayesha, known as She in the comics. With ties to Adam Warlock, we might begin the journey to his introduction.
You can watch Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017 at a theater near you. Be on the lookout for my theories on the movie in the near future.
