Captain Marvel is Origin Story of Marvel’s Most Powerful

Captain Marvel Confirmed to be Origin Story

In a recent interview with President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feigi spoke about their upcoming movies. With such movies as Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2, Black Panther, Spider-Man and Infinity War on the way, talks led to Marvel’s highly-anticipated first female-led movie, Captain Marvel. After speaking of the other films, Feigi confirmed the Brie Larson-led movie will be an origin story. Once rumored to appear in Infinity War, Carol Danvers will only make a cameo, if at all. Feigi confirmed, “And ‘Captain Marvel’ is certainly an origin story from the start.”

Brie Larson to Play Most Powerful Character in the MCU

IGN had an opportunity to interview Feigi about the movie and character. In regards to where they are with the story, Feigi reveals it’s still a work in progress. They’re still currently working on the script. As soon as it’s closer to completion, the sooner they can speak to potential directors for the film. Says Feigi, “we’re trying to get a little more of the story set before we bring a filmmaker on so we can talk about the story with the filmmaker before we bring them on.” He also reveals that Captain Marvel will be the strongest hero in the MCU when she makes her debut on March 8, 2019.

“What is one of the coolest things about it is, she will be by far the most powerful character we’ve ever introduced in the movie. ‘How do you find those limitations? How do you find those vulnerabilities?’ is something that is sort of at the crux of the story that we’re putting together. She has — as you know from the comics — an interesting story, and I think we have a very cool and unique way of telling that story. I don’t think it’s leaked yet exactly what we’re doing with her movie or how we’re doing it, but it will be cool. She will prove to be a very important character in our universe for all the movies,” exclaimed Feigi.

What It Means for the Future of the MCU

Iron Man is nearly 10 years older. Captain America has been around since the ’40s. The rest of the original Avengers are aging quickly, as we reach the pinnacle of the MCU’s first three phases. Someday soon, they’ll age out of their roles. Since Marvel is master at planning out their future, we can presume there’s a plan for the MCU’s second decade. Those plans must include a younger generation and different types of heroes than the original team. We can picture a new Avengers team consisting of Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Vision and Captain Marvel. With Doctor Strange opening the door to the multi-verse, a team consisting of two street-level heroes, two experienced with the Micro-verse, two with mystical powers and two of the most powerful beings in the MCU is a perfect blend of heroes confronting dangers in this new world.
