The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Director to Helm Live-Action Aladdin Movie

In what seems to be a continued pattern, Disney has added Aladdin to Lion King and Mulan as upcoming live-action adaptations. Disney also announced Guy Ritchie will direct the live-action adaptation of the Oscar-winning animation film. Ritchie is known for directing such movies as ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’, ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’, ‘Snatch’ and both Robert Downey led Sherlock Holmes films. With Ritchie’s directing style, we should get plenty of great moments on that flying carpet. I’m just curious how Genie will look as a CGI character.

Hard Act to Follow

It’s been over two years since the passing of the great comedian Robin Williams. What most people remember of Aladdin was the hilarious performance by the late Williams as Genie. Watching Genie in the animated film, was like watching Williams in real life. It’s going to be a difficult task to replace the comedic brilliance and intensity the late actor brought to the role. Who Ritchie and Disney cast as Genie could potentially make or break the success of the film before it’s even starts production. My personal choices to take on the role of Genie are Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey or Mike Myers. I believe any one of them could do the character justice and a big enough draw for the film.
