Netflix Punisher Series Adds New Cast Members
Punisher Series Adds New Cast Members in Pivotal Roles
The last couple of weeks have been great for Netflix, Marvel and The Defenders. Luke Cage had a successful debut, Iron Fist‘s teaser released and Sigourney Weaver announced as The Defender’s villain. You can add the Punisher to the list of great news. Marvel announced the addition of four new cast members. They also revealed which characters they’ll be playing in the first season.
An Archenemy in the Making
Ben Barnes, who’s known for his role as Prince Caspian in the Chronicles of Narnia series and as Logan in HBO’s Westworld, will be bringing his rising star to a growing cast. Barnes will bring to life the role of Billy Russo. Russo was “Frank’s Castle’s best friend from his days in the Special Forces. He runs a successful private military corporation called ‘Anvil.’” For all Punisher fans, we know Billy Russo will one day become his archenemy, Jigsaw. Frank Castle’s ex-best friend is a ruthless killer with major comic book ties to organizations opposing each of The Defenders. His role should grow their lore and could be a direct connection to it’s second season villain(s).
A Friendship Destined For Destruction
Ebon Moss-Bachrach of ‘Girls’ fame will be playing Frank Castle’s greatest ally and future villain, Microchip. During Season Two of Daredevil, Frank Castle discovers a CD with the word ‘MICRO’ written on it. Surely, that discovery will lead to their future meeting and partnership. Microchip is “a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle and everyone around them.”
Unknown Added to the Mix
Amber Rose Revah was added to the cast as a character created for the series, Agent Dinah Madani. The new character is “a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is vexed by the Punisher.” Whether she’ll have some sort of ties to any known characters in the Punisher comics remains to be seen.
A Familiar Face Joins Spinoff
During Marvel’s NYCC panel, Jon Bernthal walked on stage to interrupt Jeph Loeb, Marvel Television‘s EP, with an announcement. Bernthal humbly announced the official addition of Deborah Ann Woll and Daredevil’s Karen Page to the series. The connection her and Bernthal’s characters had in Daredevil Season 2 was compelling. Her understanding of his psyche made Frank Castle more relatable and humanized his lethal tactics.
