The Lion King Will Roar With Jon Favreau
The Lion King is being reimagined in the style of Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast. Disney made the announcement yesterday on their website. Jon Favreau has been tasked to direct and bring Simba, Timon and Pumba to life. The director of The Jungle Book has earned a shot at potentially hitting another home run with The Lion King. The box office says there’s $965.8 million worth of reasons to believe he’ll be successful.
Favreau was the genius in the director chair that kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man. His style and approach gave gravitas and realism to a character we only knew from ink and paper. He got the train rolling for Marvel Studios which hasn’t slowed one bit. Directing hasn’t been his only success. He’s also an actor who played Rudy Ruettiger’s best friend in ‘Rudy’ and wrote ‘Swingers’. His work speaks for itself, so The Lion King reimagineering will be in good hands.
The original movie was a huge success with an international box office gross of $968.8 million. It won numerous accolades from an Academy Award to Grammy Awards for original song and original score. Disney confirmed music from the original will be included just like The Jungle Book. In addition, Disney and Favreau are working on a sequel to The Jungle Book. One day, we might just get a connected universe between The Jungle Book and The Lion King. What are your thoughts?
