Rumors: Punisher Appearing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 premiere episode, “The Ghost”, reached 5.549 million viewers last week. With all the hype surrounding the new season and arrival of a certain ‘Spirit of Vengeance’, a new rumor has surfaced regarding Netflix’s The Punisher.
At Marvel’s big premiere event for season 4, there were some guests in attendance given a bit more attention than one would expect. One of those guests was none other than The Punisher creator, Gerry Conway. Jeph Loeb, Executive VP for Marvel Television, introduced Conway and baits us with, “You will understand why I brought all of these people here later in the season, and why it makes sense.”
With Jon Bernthal in attendance at New York Comic Con for only two days, speculations are starting to run wild. The statement out of NYCC is Bernthal will be filming for Netflix. Whether it means he’ll be shooting for The Defenders, Daredevil Season 3 or his own series, The Punisher, it’s anyone’s guess. However, some are speculating he might be shooting for an episode on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. based on Jeph Loeb’s introduction of Gerry Conway at the premiere.
Since every geek who loves the MCU and TV/Netflix series are crossing their fingers to see every character collide in Avengers: Infinity War, it would be at least nice to see the bleeding of walls between Marvel Television and it’s Netflix properties. There are many against seeing the Netflix heroes showing up in the MCU based on the difference in tones. As a long time comic book reader, I’ve seen the different tones meld just fine, if not perfectly, in the comics. Anyone heard of the New Fantastic Four with Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Spider-Man and the Hulk? Batman and Superman? Deadpool and anyone/everyone? Of course, I don’t want to get into a rant about that issue, yet, as we’ll save it for another time.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
